In a previous article, we have compared Brother PE770 to Brother SE400. The current battle is kind of similar to the mentioned article because once again Brother PE770, a specialized machine for embroidery, is faced with a combo machine that is able to perform both sewing and embroidery, Singer Futura XL-400. As you may have guessed, because of the wide and extensive functionality, Singer Futura XL-400 is initially more expensive than Brother PE770. The prices fluctuate over time, though, so stay aware if you can get either model at a lower cost. Now, between Brother PE770 and Singer Futura XL-400, what are the differences?
Basic Function
We have said at the beginning that Brother PE700 is an embroidery machine while Singer Futura XL-400 is a sewing and embroidery machine at the same time. Perhaps you should consider first if you prioritize sewing or embroidery. Only if you prioritize embroidery that these products are still viable.
Brother PE770 comes with 136 built-in embroidery designs and 6 lettering fonts, while Singer Futura XL-400 has 125 built-in embroidery designs, 30 sewing stitches, 2 one-step buttonhole styles, and 5 lettering fonts. If you already have a primary sewing machine, then you will get the most benefit from Brother PE770. Otherwise, if you want something that can perform a variety of jobs, Singer Futura XL-400 can give you that.
Computer Connectivity and LCD Screen
At first, you might wonder what is the correlation between computer connectivity and LCD screen. Both models can connect to a computer, through which you can also import more embroidery designs. However, Singer Futura XL-400 needs to be connected to a computer to work because it has no display screen. I repeat, Singer Futura XL-400 has no display screen. In order to control the machine, you need it connected to your computer. On the other hand, Brother PE770 has an LCD screen for controls so that it can work alone and independently.
Other Features
Singer Futura XL-400 has a multi-hoop capability. Its embroidery hoop is 10”x6”, but it can also take larger designs of up to 18.5”x11” with the capability. Meanwhile, Brother PE770 only has a 5”x7” embroidery hoop. Additionally, Singer Futura XL-400 will let you make some customizations with basic functions and built-in designs by using the included software. For more extensive and advanced customizations, you need to buy a separate software that is considerably pricey.
Brother PE770, on the other hand, offer a convenient and easy usage. It can operate independently or with a computer, the controls are quick and handy, and the instructions, guide, and tutorials are clear and easy to follow.
Brother PE770 vs. Singer Futura XL-400
For the fullest value for your money, we recommend you to choose Brother PE770. It is much easier and more practical to use, and is always reliable even though you don’t have a computer with you. However, if you are absolutely certain that you will always use your embroidery machine with a computer, Singer Futura XL-400 can be a great choice.
